The Formal Curriculum

Pupils at The Clare School follow one of three learning pathways – Pre-Formal, Semi-Formal or Formal. The Formal pathway is mainly for those who have complex physical or sensory needs but who are able to access many aspects of the National Curriculum.

Formal pupils require some adult support, both for their learning needs and possibly their personal care, but within highly differentiated lessons, delivered by skilled staff, they can achieve well for pupils in a Special School setting completing a range of accreditation (please see the link below).

As with all the pupils at The Clare School, pupils will follow some type of individualised timetable, but formal pupils will rotate in the secondary phase through subject specific classes, with specialist teachers.
