It is possibly more important than ever before to keep children active at this challenging time. Without the routine of regular physical activity at school, children are at a greater risk of developing poor habits and therefore having a detrimental effect on their physical and mental health.
Please find below a selection of online resources that will help your children experience the recommended 1 hour of physical activity required every day.

So far this half term we have been exploring Peru and issues linked to fair trade. The class have been listening to Peruvian music and exploring some South American cooking ideas. In the Home Learning files I have provided the music and massage session we do each week for you to have a go at at home.Next Half Term our topic changes to South Africa. We will be using the Anansi stories as the basis for our topic work. In the Home Learning files I have included the links for three specific stories you may like to watch/listen to at home. There are some South African cooking recipes and an art task where you can have a go at making Anansi. There are some more general resources which you may like to use as well.Sensory Art Ideas

Hello everyone.
In form OM our topic for this half term has been based around Roald Dahl’s story book, ‘The
Twits’. Pupils have really enjoyed our sensory story version of this which I have attached, feel free
to adapt the resources to things that you have around the home.
In our art session we have also been exploring different materials with paint such as spaghetti and
marbles but you could also explore feathers, vegetables or scrunched up paper. Allow your child
time to explore the material with their/hands feet and to make marks on paper by moving the
material e.g. spaghetti across the page.
I have also attached some ideas for a sensology work out, which is an activity that we do at
school to help pupils to engage with their different senses.
Hopefully you have a copy of your child’s LSP which has the specific targets that they have been
working on at school. The Twitts sensory story Sensory Art Tasks to send home Sensology work out

Most of you will have a copy of your Child’s current LSPs – These are the individual targets that we work on with your child at School. To help with this at home, I will try to make sure, as much as possible, that all individual communication aids are sent home if needed – Including communication books/ PECs/ Signs and symbols etc. If you have any questions about your child’s targets, or how how we use these communication methods with your child, then please feel free to contact me.
Another good communication activity for some children, is ‘Intensive Interaction’ – There is loads of information and lovely videos online about how to use this effectively.
The Topic for the rest of this Half-Term is ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, which the children have been really enjoying. I have included the short Sensory Story that we use weekly.
Most of you will have your own physical activities that you do with your children at home, however I understand it may be difficult without things such as Standing frames and walkers, for example. I have included an example of a ‘Story massage’ that we do with the children in Class. This is a nice physical activity that they all enjoy, and involves delivering a short Story or song, together with the matching massage strokes and movements.
Some children will benefit from the different Sensory experiences and be able to communicate preferences whilst taking part in exploration. For other children, you may want to stretch their learning by identifying different colours, for example and completing their work in a more formal/structured way. Any small problem solving activities will stretch their cognitive skills – such as using bricks, puzzles and switch toys if you have them.
Enjoy… Emma.
Art ideas: We have already enjoyed making golden tickets and ‘Chocolate Gloop’ during Sensory Art. We were planning on creating these to add to our topic work this week…
Any exploration activities are also good, so we always try to create our own Topic related exploration tray in Class for free time. For Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this could include sweet wrappers, lots of bright colours, smells and tastes if appropriate. I have included how to complete a ‘Sensology workout’ with your child, as this is another nice activity that we complete weekly, in a darkened, calm environment.
Cooking idea: This week we were planning on making Blueberry Muffins and usually get all of our Recipes from the BBC website.

Art ideas: Easter!
Any exploration activities are also good, so we always try to create our own Topic related exploration tray in Class for free time. For Easter, this could include lots of colours, sweet/easter egg wrappers, chocolate smells and tastes if appropriate. Depending on what you have at home you could also use egg shapes and containers, animals such as rabbits and chicks etc. We were also planning on making chocolate scented playdough. you can be really creative with your Artwork and there doesn’t always have to be a ‘finished product’ … use shaving foam, food for printing and generally anything you can find around the house.
I have included how to complete a ‘Sensology workout’ with your child, as this is another nice activity that we complete weekly, in a darkened, calm environment … You can adapt it to fit in with Easter if you’d like.
Cooking idea: This week we were planning on making a mini-egg chocolate cheesecake and usually get all of our Recipes from the BBC website. There are loads of sensory based recipes relating to Easter if you look on Google, including rice crispy cakes, hot-cross buns etc.

Music
Here is a selection of songs that we enjoy in our pre-formal music lessons. Your children may like to hear and take part in them! For some you will need things that make a noise (and bubbles if you have them!): they are all intended to be interactive and enjoyed with an adult or other children. I hope they amuse the children, and that they can overlook the ropey singing and playing!
The Songs are available here
